Amazon announces adoption of zero-emission fuel following revelation of 2021 carbon emissions spike
August 31, 2022 — Amazon announced that it would adopt green hydrogen – starting in 2025 – to decarbonize its operations. The contract will provide power for 30,000 forklifts or 800 heavy-duty trucks. Even though ocean shipping was mentioned in the announcement, Amazon did not give a firm commitment to when it would green its ocean cargo shipping operations.

Amazon will have a hard time reaching net zero after emissions rose 18% last year
August 11, 2022 — This week, retail giant Amazon announced that its carbon emissions jumped by a staggering 18% in 2021 during the pandemic and, overall, its emissions are up 40% since 2019. The vast majority of these increases came from many of the out-of-sight, out-of-mind things it takes to get billions of packages to consumers’ front doors—think: ships, planes, trucks, and warehouses.
