Last year, ocean heat hit a record high, increasing risk of ocean acidification, sea-level rise and extreme weather. At the same time, Walmart clocked in as the #1 most-pollutive retail importer to the U.S.

In 2019 alone, Walmart’s ocean shipping emitted more than 3.7 million tons of CO2 into the atmosphere — as much as a U.S. coal-fired power plant burning for an entire year. Together with their cargo carrier CMA-CGM, Walmart has been dubbed a “super polluter in U.S. ocean shipping,” endangering the health of our ocean, air, and port-side communities.
