Urge Home Depot, Lowe’s, and Walmart to Abandon Dirty Ships
Urge Home Depot, Lowe’s, and Walmart to Abandon Dirty Ships
Home Depot, Lowe’s, and Walmart ship their products on cargo ships that pollute the air we breathe with the world’s dirtiest fossil fuels. In our latest report card, the three companies received an F grade for their commitment to decarbonization and the development of zero-emission fuels for maritime shipping.
Very few retailers are accepting their responsibility to decarbonize ocean shipping. Many are not even quantifying Scope 3 emissions, which includes shipping. Our report found that in 2021, Walmart emitted over 800K metric tons of CO2 on imports to the U.S. alone. We are currently experiencing the hottest temperatures in recorded history, and companies must recognize the urgency of the climate crisis and commit to shipping decarbonization to avoid catastrophe.
Since our launch in 2021, Ship It Zero has worked to hold corporate polluters accountable. While big-name companies like Amazon and Target have made some clean ocean shipping commitments, Home Depot, Lowe’s, and Walmart still have not committed to investing in clean maritime shipping, despite reporting record profits year-over-year.
These three companies are key clientele of shipping liners and have the opportunity to make a change. It’s time for retailers to commit to adopting zero-emission shipping by 2030.
We need more consumers like YOU to join the movement. Add your name and urge retailers to:
- Acabar ya con la contaminación portuaria: Utilizar energías limpias y electrificación en los grandes puertos.
- Abandonar los barcos sucios: Dejar de transportar productos en buques que utilizan combustibles fósiles.
- Cero emisiones al timón: Comprométete a lograr un transporte marítimo con un 100% de emisiones cero para 2030.
